Jumeirah Saadiyat Island
Country: Abu Dhabi
Saadiyat Island has become one of Abu Dhabi’s most attractive spots. What was once just a quiet coastline, is now home to major museums and several luxury resorts. Out of all of them, Jumeirah Saadiyat in my eyes is a true gem.
Set along one of the most serene stretches of beach, the Saadiyat Jumeirah Resort instantly transports you to a tranquil island escape. From the moment you arrive, a sense of calm takes over, a feeling that lingers throughout your stay.

The Suite
We always choose to stay in the Panoramic One Bedroom Suite. It’s the highest suite in the one bedroom category and the name delivers: floor-to-ceiling views of the ocean and beach, a constant reminder of why you came.
Inside, the design is minimal, calm, clean, accented by soft seating and neutral tones. I loved the cool circular shaped sofa – great for lounging around on! You can still tell this is one of the newer hotels here but If we’re being honest, the wooden tones are aging a little. The contemporary edge is dulling. But the view makes you forgive most things.
The bedroom is lovely, if a little snug, though the view more than makes up for it. My only gripe? Nowhere to put the luggage. There’s no walk-in closet, and the wardrobes are conveniently blocked whenever the door is open. Our solution: move the bags to the front porch area and close the door on them for the rest of our trip! If you don’t mind a slightly smaller balcony, I’d say the one-bedroom suite has a nicer overall layout including a dedicated area for storing your luggage.
The bathroom is compact but nicely done, with signature Amouage toiletries and a welcome surprise—Aqua di Parma minis, kindly offered by housekeeping as a token for our loyalty. A separate powder room adds convenience, and children get their own robes and slippers, thoughtful and sized right.
The balcony is the kind you linger on. Evenings after bedtime were spent on the curved daybed, watching the sun slide into the sea, the sound of waves filtering through the silence. It’s not a Maldives-style open horizon, there are mangroves between you and the ocean, but it’s still genuinely stunning.
The resort
Jumeirah Saadiyat Island blends its natural setting with thoughtful facilities that make it work equally well for families and couples.
- Family Pool – Modest in size but cleverly designed, with varying depths so toddlers can play for hours without stress. Surrounded by palms and greenery with the ocean ahead, it feels both safe for kids and serene for parents.
- Adult Pool – The adults pool is identical in design and set side by side, separated only by a small jetty. Because the pools are so close together, families with children often drift between the two, enjoying the best of both worlds.
Lounger service is discreet—sometimes too discreet—but the calm setting and ocean views make up for it. - SAL Saadiyat Beach Club – The brand’s second outpost after Burj Al Arab, but with a more laid-back soul. Think elegant design, ocean views, and a slower pace—without the velvet ropes or blaring music. Adults are the main audience, but kids are welcome for lunch, making it a refreshing break from the main family zones.
- Water Sports & Fitness – A good mix of active options, from paddleboarding and kayaking to a well-equipped fitness centre, all framed by the turquoise sea.
- The Beach – our absolute highlight! A stretch of powdery white sand that feels almost untouched. With no buildings to break the line of sight, the horizon melts seamlessly into the sea, giving the resort a true island serenity. Sunset strolls here are pure magic.
The Dining
The resort’s restaurants balance variety with style, letting you eat differently every day without stepping off the property:
- White – All-day international buffet with live cooking stations
- Mare Mare – Relaxed Italian, ideal for casual family lunches
- Tean – Levantine flavours by the beach, best enjoyed at sunset
- Majlis Saadiyat – Afternoon tea, Arabic pastries, and light bites
- Offside Sports Lounge – Burgers, grills, and a lively pub feel
- SAL Saadiyat Beach Club – Refined Mediterranean with a chilled beach club vibe
The Spa
This is something which I like, a spa which gives you an experience, not just a sauna and steam room shoved into a changing room and the Talise Spa certainly gives you a whole experience. It’s well-equipped: steam, salt room, sauna, cold plunge, and a large outdoor whirlpool area. A perfect place to spend a couple of hours, unwinding in a relaxed setting with everything you need to switch off. There is also a well-equipped Gym to burn off those extra calories from breakfast!
My therapist, Pema, delivered one of the most precise, attuned treatments I’ve had in the region. She listened, adapted, and never felt robotic. A well-rounded spa that’s easy to enjoy—simple, relaxing, and a pleasure to visit.
The Food
Most of our meals were at White, the all-day dining venue. The name says it all: clean interiors, coastal tones, a space that doesn’t compete with the food.
Breakfast is a fresh, nourishing affair: juices, shots, smoothie, standouts like the charcoal + sugarcane + mint concoction that’s worth a mention. Then a solid mix of yoghurts, fresh fruit, Arabic mezze, Indian items, vegan options, and even sorbet.
There’s a children’s section too, well-considered and playful.
A highlight here was Raju, the assistant manager, who went above and beyond. Eggless waffles, paneer parathas, dietary accommodations, all delivered with warmth and ease.
Dinner was less impressive. The vegetarian spread was thinner, and for us (no onion, no garlic), custom meals were kindly offered—but then charged as if we were dining à la carte and buffet combined. These billing ambiguities break the magic a little. You shouldn’t have to stay alert when the whole point is to unwind.
The Family
Apart from the family pool, there is also a separate kids pool near the kids club. The kids pool is charming with plenty of water fountains, an adjacent playground and beautifully positioned for parents to recline on loungers and watch the sunset while the little ones splash and play. The kids club is perfectly sized for little ones, with indoor and outdoor activities including pool games, and even kite-flying on the beach (a huge hit with our son). Staffing can feel stretched at times, and door security could be tighter, but the energy and creativity keep the kids happy.
Dining is designed with families in mind. At breakfast, a colourful children’s station steals the show — tiny pancakes, golden waffles, cereals, and small bites perfect for little hands, all beautifully arranged on a charming kids’ train, complete with child-sized plates and cutlery. Restaurants across the resort are quick to adapt dishes and offer high chairs without fuss.
What really lifts the family experience are the small touches: child-sized robes and slippers in the villa, staff who remember names, and a general sense that children are as valued as adults. It’s not the most heavily programmed family resort, but the balance works—enough to keep little ones entertained, without overwhelming parents who simply want to relax.
The Service
Staff are friendly and helpful, but this isn’t a butler-led resort. Instead, you’ll have a WhatsApp-based e-butler which is standard for most Jumeirah resorts, who will route your requests to the right departments. It’s fast, but impersonal. Sometimes you want a single human to follow through.
There’s no club lounge here either. As suite guests, we’d have liked more curated inclusions or benefits—a welcome drink, an exclusive breakfast corner, a sunset space to call our own. Without it, the suite premium is felt more in square footage than experience.
The Verdict
Jumeirah Saadiyat Island gets so much right: the sense of space, the easygoing atmosphere, the ocean views. It could benefit from a few tweaks, but it’s still a place that makes you slow down and enjoy being there.
The design carries an understated elegance, even if some elements show their age. The service is genuinely warm, though not especially nuanced. And the dining is well considered, if not quite at a luxury level. But the setting is second to none. That beach, those blues, the stillness—rare in the region, and worth returning for.
We’ll be back. For the ocean. For the light. For the kind of quiet that feels like a privilege.
